Trivia Game Play Controls on an External Webpage

The purpose of the "Trivia Game Play Controls" Feature

Trivia Game Play Controls is an alternative method for your players to join in the Trivia Game. Instead of commenting directly on the streaming platform (Facebook, YouTube, etc.), players open a dedicated External Webpage where they can play by clicking on the answers.

This feature is especially helpful when Facebook considers some players' responses as spam and doesn't publish their comments, making the game worthless. You can also use this feature to stream a Trivia Game to any custom RTMP destination, as users can participate via the external webpage.

How Does the External Webpage Work?

1. Click on the Trivia Game Layer, and copy the Link on the right side bar. Share the link with your audience.

To inform users that the game is being played on an External Webpage, you can share the link before the stream starts. Or, you can add it to the description, include it in the comments, or even generate a QR code for easy access.

2. Click Settings (Gear Icon) next the the link to adjust the view of the Game Controls on the External Webpage.

3. If you stream your Trivia Game to YouTube, you can tick the "Embed live video on the page" option so viewers can watch the stream and answer questions on the same page. This feature is currently available for YouTube only.

This is how their Play Controls will look like when this feature is enabled:

If you stream to other destinations, users might need to keep two tabs open: one for the stream and one for Play Controls, or they might have to switch between them.

It's not necessary to do this because, if you stream to other destinations, you can also tick the options to "display question" and "display timer." This way, users don't need to switch to another tab unless they want to check comments or see other content shown in the stream.

This is how their Play Controls will look like when streamed to other destinations (in this example, "display question" and "display timer" are not enabled):

The Login Process Explained (Authentication for Trivia Game Participants)

To access the trivia game on an external webpage, users can now log in either through Facebook or Google. This allows us to retrieve their name and picture, and to track their results.

Synchronisation

When you're hosting the game, you may notice an 8-12 seconds delay on the External Webpage compared to what you see in the Studio.

This happens because there is a delay in the stream. For that reason, we adjust the display of these controls to ensure synchronization between what users see, so that everything is calculated correctly. Without synchronization, users might think they can still answer a question even though the controls are no longer available.

Don't worry if the screens in the Studio and on the External Webpage don't match exactly: everything is processed correctly on our end.

Custom Live Delay ⏱️

Custom Live Delay is a feature that allows you to manually set the stream delay. This is useful when streaming to custom RTMP platforms that are not directly supported in LiveReacting Studio, as the delay on your custom platform is unknown to us. By setting the delay manually, you can synchronize the display of trivia answers on the page with the broadcast on the platform where you are streaming.

Important: Make sure that the custom delay is shorter than your round duration. The duration of the Game Screen and Question End Screen should be AT LEAST 5–10 seconds longer than the custom delay you set.

For example, if your custom delay is 35 seconds, the round duration should be no shorter than 40-45 seconds to prevent any issues.
